If you’ve visited the wonderful Cincinnati Wing of the Cincinnati Art Museum, you are probably familiar with Frank Duveneck. The Covington-born artist studied his craft in Germany and in 1872 painted The Whistling Boy, which hangs today in the CAM along with other items produced by the many master practitioners of the fine arts here in the Queen City through the decades.
A work by Duveneck that has remained in the family through the years is being auctioned on February 5th by Cowan’s Auctions in Cincinnati. Portrait of Young Girl is listed as lot #323 in the Winter Fine and Decorative Art sale.
The online catalog for this auction is currently available for viewing. Items may be seen in person at the Cowan’s showroom on Este Avenue on February 4th and the morning of February 5th before the auction begins.
In addition to numerous original American and European paintings, a fine selection of art glass, furniture, bronzes, ceramics and jewelry is also being offered.
